The True Meaning of the 5 of Cups

from $140.00

In the AbFab III phase of the collection, I’m creating collages that aren’t necessarily blended into one flow or statement. I build vignettes from my archived pieces that I’ve made, saved, collected, and curated. These visual chapters are meant to evoke places, time, memories, and emotions. I’m constructing a narrative with open possibilities for anyone’s journey or interpretation.

I want to provide something for viewers to think about, something that they haven’t seen before. In this work, I’m telling stories with images from my archive bank. It’s my history, and it’s my present, as I’m experiencing it and sharing it.

The tarot card, the 5 of Cups, shows three cups spilled over and two cups still standing. The idea of it is a change in perspective, that instead of regretting what’s happened in the past (the spilled cups) you focus on what you can put into those two cups that are standing, waiting to have something fill them up.

This piece is made up of 4 vignettes. Each one tells a tale, and they are built with materials that are quite disparate from each other. All the pieces are my original artwork—drawings, photographs, pieces of paintings, printed patterns, etc. I’m interested in the energy that happens from disparate elements being combined together. I find this activity, or action, opens the door to unlimited possibilities.

Original collage, 24”x36” mixed media collage—acrylic paint, paper and printed patterns on cradled wood panel, 2026.
